We are looking to recruit experienced Engineering Project Managers to join our automation engineering team, managing the construction to go live cycle of new fulfilment centres with our new customer Kroger. You will project manage the technical realisation of our automation solutions for new sites across America, managing matrix resources and deliverables from multiple teams across engineering.

So what’s the role?

  • Following a detailed Ocado induction plan, you will lead the MHe delivery of the Ocado Smart Platform (OSP), Customer Fulfilment Centre for a dedicated customer site; typical projects are 12-15 months.
  • You will work with the business team to formulate the capital installation budget of MHe Hardware, handle the tendering process for services and materials incorporating high labour content
  • Build the plan and schedules of work across the full project
  • Deliver installation against agreed budgets and time frame, presenting variations and mitigations to stakeholders at regular intervals
  • You will provide leadership and management to a group of engineering managers, multiple contractors and a site presence of up to 200 people across the project
  • Responsible for MHE risk identification, mitigation and documentation. This requires anticipating engineering challenges and the need to manage and consult mitigations/issues (eg Prototypes, Engineering compliance etc.)
  • Define the Safe Systems of Work for the site, employing best of Ocado Engineering standards, the needs of the client / general contractor and local regulations

What would we like to see?

  • A background in engineering construction projects will be essential; this could be gained in automated warehousing, large-scale production or manufacturing facilities, automotive or other relevant environments
  • Experience of working to multi-million dollar budgets
  • Demonstrable competence in effective management and leadership of a team, experience of delivering through people, contractors, etc
  • Able to draw on a range of project management skills, tools and approaches
  • Needs to be key team player in matrix organisation team, remain positive and flexible under pressure / ambiguity, often working across time zones to contact UK professionals for solutions 
  • Will need to think both strategically and manage short-term issues. 
  • To solve problems and roadblocks will have be innovative, find better ways of working, have ability to think on their feet and be hands on when required
  • Flexibility will be key, you will need to be based on site for up to 14 months per project as well as spending some time in the UK and other Ocado sites during the induction process.
