Description

The Code for Life initiative (www.codeforlife.education) is an opportunity for Ocado Technology to give back to the community by providing free resources and games to teach children to program and support educators. The initiative, which now boasts over 100,000 users, launched on September 2014 in conjunction with the introduction of the new computing curriculum in the UK. The first web app, Rapid Router, is aimed at primary school students. This educational game teaches key computational thinking skills, giving students the ability to create a program which takes a delivery van from the warehouse to a customer's home in the shortest, most efficient route possible.

We are now developing a new web app, AI:MMO (https://www.codeforlife.education/play/aimmo/). It will pave the way for students up to GCSE level, by providing a tool for the next age range after Rapid Router. We aim for computing classes to appeal to a more diverse range of students with our game.

It will teach teenagers some more advanced Python and Artificial Intelligence techniques in a Massively Multiplayer Environment, with a time travel based game theme, while providing teachers with useful materials so they can use it in a classroom setting. Developed with the Django framework, the Unity game engine, and Kubernetes clusters, it is an exciting and motivating project! https://github.com/ocadotechnology/aimmo
