As part of the central automation engineering team, you and colleagues will work to make our automation solutions a reality at our next generation of customer fulfilment centre’s (CFC’s). You will develop the knowledge and expertise in the application and use of products developed through our in-house product development facility. You will become the product technical specialist for key Ocado Automation Product(s).

We are looking for a number of Product Specialists across different product streams so people with experience and competence in systems engineering, robotics, functional safety and automation should read on.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Be the central automation engineering product specialist for key automation products, developing and maintaining your detailed product knowledge
  • Configuration and application engineering of automation product(s) destined for our new CFC’s
  • Identify and coordinate engineering change requests and product improvements
  • Maintain and communicate product technical documentation
  • Provide technical product support, especially during design, installation & commissioning phases.
  • Support the planning and programme of new installations and upgrades
  • Support engineering supply chain with any related technical issues, including acceptance testing
  • Work closely with our development department to receive new products and developments, being engaged during development and NPI phases
  • Liaise and work with technical resource e.g. product development, both internal and external consultants as required to deliver and validate solutions

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Ability to multitask and manage / prioritise a complex diary with multiple simultaneous activities
  • Aptitude to debate detail (both technical and commercial) with both internal and external parties
  • Be able to perform independently and as part of a team
  • Comfortable in a dynamic, fast paced environment
  • Commercially aware and consider cost impacts on decisions and proposals
  • Communication of technical information in a variety of forms to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Deliver projects on time and within approved budgets
  • Demonstrate a balanced and considered approach to problem resolution
  • Experience of projects and products in highly automated environments
  • Good technical competence relating to automation and general engineering
  • Innovative in thought, able to design & propose alternative solutions when faced with barriers
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Google Docs and ideally MS Project
  • Project management skills (including planning, risk management and reporting)
  • Relevant technical qualification, to HND or Degree level
