In a nutshell
This is a rare opportunity to join our Supply Chain Systems team, delivering a world-leading demand product availability, forecasting, and ordering system.

We are looking for a dedicated backend developer to join our Agile team in developing a new forecasting engine capable of real-time analysis of sales history and demand patterns, in order to make a more accurate projection of demand. All the while, we will continue the development of our ever-evolving suite of existing supply chain applications.

You’ll enjoy being part of the team if you like: learning fast (through experimentation, self-motivation etc); being autonomous but able to collaborate (sharing knowledge is important to us); developing your craft (we never stop questioning how we can be better).

What I need to know
To succeed as a backend developer in Supply Chain Systems, you will need to have strong programming skills, a good understanding of design patterns, alongside a passion for clean, well-tested code.

Your understanding of the fundamentals of computer science will allow you to pick up new concepts quickly and, as well as being a specialist in Java, you should be comfortable working with different tools and technologies. Being a good team player is essential, however, you must also be self-motivated and autonomous. You will care about not only maintaining, but improving code quality, and contributing to the team’s evolving development process.

We would like to hear from you if you have:
  • Strong Java programming skills.
  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs and their implementation.
  • Appreciates the importance of automated testing.
  • Relevant development experience or education.
  • An understanding and some experience with Agile development practices.
We’d love it if you have:
  • A passion for learning and improving!
  • A fanaticism for great, clean code!
  • Experience working in a continuous delivery environment.
  • Understand the challenges of supporting a live production system.
Technologies that we use:
  • Java, Spring / SpringBoot.
  • Kubernetes and Openstack.
  • Git, Go, and Jenkins.
  • AWS (Elastic Beanstalk, SQS, SNS, etc.)
  • JUnit, Hamcrest, Mockito
  • Tomcat, ActiveMQ, Oracle DB, DynamoDB
What we can offer you
Technically stretching work is a given. We want you to push technological boundaries and create solutions to problems people haven’t even thought about yet; so we’ll give you the freedom and the tools and the playful, stimulating working environment you need to do what’s never been done before. While red tape’s conspicuous by its absence, rewards are plentiful:  as well as a competitive salary, benefits include pension scheme, share schemes, interest-free season ticket loan and, of course, a healthy 15% Ocado staff discount (and free delivery).
