Vacancy description

To enable Ocado to retain UK sector lead and to grow nationally and internationally through the design, development and on-site delivery of new automation products and systems.

Roles & Responsibilities

Working within the Development and Engineering division and through a dedicated management team, leading across all other relevant Ocado teams to:

  • Define and agree the prioritised road-map for future automation development
  • Provide the automation catalogue for Customer Fulfilment Centre (CFC) design teams and jointly develop effective automation solutions
  • Provide planning input to new CFC projects
  • Own and manage the automation development budget
  • Develop and deliver automation product and system objectives to functional, performance, cost and schedule targets
  • Run the dedicated Ocado R&D facility
  • Manage the procurement, implementation, commissioning and handover of the automation system in each new CFC in line with performance, schedule and cost targets
  • Manage Root cause streams for diagnosis and resolution of product / system issues.
  • Provide ongoing technical support for existing customers
  • Govern all activities through technical and procedural fora, and through the continued refinement of appropriate processes and procedures
  • Manage directly a team of circa 20 people (though many more involved in product and project delivery)
  • Part of senior management leadership team with Development and Engineering Division.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Technically competent in automation hardware and software and particularly in software integration
  • Leadership experience in automation product development methodology and lifecycles
  • Experienced, assertive and influential senior leader
  • Operates extremely well across all business levels
  • Comfortable with high levels of accountability
  • Able to think clearly, particularly when dealing with complexity
  • Logical thinker and quickly able to differentiate requirements from solutions
  • Excellent communicator
  • Able to get the best from and create great working relationships with both internal resources and external suppliers
