Ocado Technology work in an Agile software development environment. The successful candidate will need to have a good understanding of Agile Methodologies and how they can be used to manage and report on large programmes of software development projects.  

What you'll be doing:

  • Work closely with department heads and key stakeholders to identify projects that are required in order to keep pace with Business and Technology aspirations regarding capacity, growth, fulfilment, technical advancement, etc – the route map
  • Actively drive the development of the route map for their particular work area(s), while sensitively acknowledging and protecting the technical route map for each IT area they represent
  • Use Agile Project Management techniques manage to programmes and where necessary individual projects
  • Work in partnership with peer Delivery Managers, ensuring each allocated area develops in balance with the others
  • Work to ensure that projects are prioritised, allocated to ITPM’s (or delivered by the Delivery Manager) and promoted in line with business aspirations (i.e. comply with the route map).
  • Process solutions in line with required schedules (i.e. as dictated by the route map).
  • Line manage, lead and mentor a team of 5+ Technology Project Managers in-line with their needs and seniority in all stages of the project programme.
  • Work closely and diplomatically with all stakeholders (in conjunction with other teams) to ensure that a positive working relationship is fostered whilst ensuring cost, programme and scope are maintained.
  • Constantly review and develop the Ocado Agile Project Management methodology making sure that it is fit for purpose and promote its use.
  • Represent your programme at C level board and steering meetings. Be responsible for delivering management reports on your programmes and projects within these programmes to the Ocado board and other stakeholders.

We're interested in talking to people who have the following experience:

  • Delivery focused Programme Manager with full project lifecycle experience working on software development projects. Will be able to demonstrate a proven ability to lead software development projects and ensure objectives, goals, and commitments are met
  • Agile Project Management tools such as Jira, Rally, VersionOne or equivalent
  • Traditional Project Management tools such as Microsoft Project, Visio, and all Office Tools
  • Excellent understanding of Agile software development Methodologies
  • Strong interpersonal skills including mentoring, coaching, collaborating, and team building including the ability to interact with developers and technical leads in a technical manner
  • Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills with an ability to manage competing demands. Knowledge and understanding of business needs with the ability to establish/maintain high level of customer trust and confidence. Some commercial experience as a BA or a developer would be strongly preferable.
  • Knowledge of SQL and its use in analysing data from relational databases is essential.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills and experience interacting with both business and IT individuals at all levels including the executive level.
  • Creative approach to problem-solving with the ability to focus on details while maintaining the “big picture” view. Candidates should be able to demonstrate that they have worked on and managed programmes of projects through the full development lifecycle.
  • Strong technical background, Degree background or equivalent.
